Review –

If you’re a fan of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, you’ll be delighted with its video presentation. It delivers a fantastic image filled with crisp, colorful action and sinister shenanigans that the film itself sometimes struggles to capture. The presentation features ectoplasmic greens and blues, vivid reds, deep black levels, and lovely flesh tones. The palette is as vibrant as it was in theaters, with shadows revealing just the right amount of detail and beautifully balanced contrast, providing enough vibrancy and punch to captivate younger viewers.

While the Blu-ray won’t offer the noticeable HDR boost of its 4K counterpart, the detail remains excellent throughout. Edge definition is sharp, fine textures are naturally resolved, delineation is spot on, and there isn’t a hint of softness. Although the image lacks notable grain, giving it a more digital, glossy aesthetic, it still retains enough of a filmic quality to look cinematic. Additionally, there are no issues with banding, blocking, or other artifacts, making the encode impressively proficient. You can debate the film’s quality depending on how much you love the franchise, but this is a solid disc nevertheless.

It’s hard to really criticize this franchise with these latest two movies. I was born in the 90’s so I grew up watching the originals as a kid, enjoying them every time October rolled around. I have nothing but fond memories of the Ghostbusters franchise. That doesn’t give them a pass to make lackluster films, as the quality of these films are definitely up to debate, but watching these films with my kids today… they love them and that’s the whole point. A franchise like this spans over generations and I’m sure we will see more in the future. Overall ,with a great video presentation, audio, and plenty of special features, it’s an excellent release all around to add to your collection. I only have the Blu-ray, but if you make the jump I can guarantee the 4K edition will enhance everything mentioned above.

No matter what you decide to do, you can grab a copy at your local retailer on 4K or Blu-ray today. It will make a great addition to your collection if you are a fan of the franchise.
